Hosting an Earth Fair Earns $$
Earth Fairs are quite profitable for schools/organizations.
- Different than a whole school fundraiser which may raise tens of thousands of dollars, our fundraiser is geared toward a teacher, a team of teachers, student councils and clubs, or other specialty areas/clubs. An Earth Fair most often lasts a week but can be held in just a few days too.
- Funds are commonly used for Young Ameritowne, Outdoor Education/Lab events, various field trip costs, grade level needs such as techonology, grade level novel sets, and even Destination Imagination costs.
- Your share of profits is substantial!
Hosting an Earth Fair Promotes Student Leadership
Our Earth Fairs are unique in that most schools who host an earth fair allow their students to take charge!
- Students learn about the rocks, minerals and fossils that we carry through our presentations and research via our website.
- Students create advertising to promote their in school Earth Fair. Students may design signs to display around the school, create slideshows, movies and other digital informative presentations to share with classrooms. Some schools have students set appointments with classroom teachers to present the information to their students. Others use morning announcement time, school TV time, and school websites to deliver student created presentations to the student and parent community.
- Students work the sales tables and cashier, honing their speaking and math skills as your school earns money.
- Students assist the school's student community in purchases, building leadership amongst the team of workers.
- At some schools, students have even counted total money taken in during the sale, and help in counting the beginning and ending inventory.
Hosting an Earth Fair is Student Centered Learning
The Earth Fair's sponsor(s) determine to what extent the students are involved in the sale. Our fundraiser is uniquely designed to incorporate student learning, and customize it to your students. A former teacher of 29 years, Cindy Loehr, Earth Treasure's owner, loves presenting to students!
Through our company's pre-sale presentation to your students, we can focus on:
Through our company's pre-sale presentation to your students, we can focus on:
- The various rocks, minerals, and fossils that are available for sale during the Earth Fair.
- Grade level science concepts such as the rock cycle, sedimentation, erosion and other geology concepts.
- Financial literacy concepts such as purchasing wants versus needs, production of natural resources, how costs of goods are determined, supply and demand, profit and loss, and more.
- Mathematics as found in our natural world! Did you know that:
- The Fibonacci Sequence and the Golden Ratio are found in ammonites?
- Agates often form in concentric bands?
- Geometry terms such as faces, hexagon, triangular, and pentagon can be emphasized using crystals such as quartz, amethyst and citrine?
Hosting an Earth Fair is Project Based Learning at its Best
An Earth Fair not only raise funds for your school's cause, Earth Fairs are project based learning. Earth Fairs:
- Deliver knowledge and skills such as collaboration, communication, problem solving, and self management.
- Can begin with a challenging question or problem to your students. One example is: We would like to take a field trip to Dinosaur Ridge/Colorado History Museum/ Manitou Cliff Dwellings/ Young Ameritowne/Outdoor Lab, but we need to have the funds to do it. What are some ways that we might raise the funds needed to cover the cost of our field trip?
- Provide authenticity as planning and conducting an Earth Fair is a real world learning experience for students.
- Enable student choice and voice as they create advertisements to promote the fair for their school.
- Promote public product in every sense of the word.
